Sometimes when I tell people I come from Zece Prajini they think I come from the end of the earth. But here, at the end of the earth, is the right place to make music," says trumpeter Costica "Cimai" Trifan.

Zece Prajini (literally meaning ten fields) is a village of just four hundred souls, surrounded by gentle mountains and dusty tracks. Situated in the east of Romania, it is no more than a stone's throw from the border with the former Soviet republic of Moldova. This area of Romania is known for its rugged seclusion and the stubborn poetry of its inhabitants. In the evenings, when the winds calm down, the sounds of the Fanfare echo from the surrounding slopes. This is the home of the twelve Romany Gypsy musicians who make up the Fanfare Ciocårlia brass ensemble.

The origins of Romany gypsy brass bands are to be found in the Turkish military bands that emerged at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Then, the Ottoman occupation of the Balkans had a considerable influence that can be clearly heard in the music across Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia and Romania. The art of playing music has been handed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. There is no sheet music. The instruments, bearing the marks of the previous decades, have lost their shine and gained their own patina.

On them Fanfare Ciocårlia manage to set off a musical fireworks display, with an unbelievable talent for intricate rhythms and dizzy tempos. Traditional dances from Romania and rhythms from Turkey, Bulgaria and Macedonia are played on horns, trumpets, clarinets and timpani. Every weekend the instruments are hauled off to be played at weddings and other ceremonial occasions. They are often played for over thirty hours non-stop. For each different moment in life there is an appropriate piece: geamparale, sîrba, hora, and if the mood requires, a racy ruseasca at the end. Back in their village the musicians soothe their sore lips and await their next engagement.

A wonderful symbiosis exists between the older and the younger musicians. There is respectful silence whenever the old master Radulescu Lazar himself reaches for the trumpet and strikes up his wild "Ruseasca lui filon" dance. The younger musicians' eyes still narrow dreamily at these sounds as their fingers nervously caress the valves of their instruments. The older musicians wink tolerantly whenever the younger generation blast new sounds through their horns.

Since music cannot "only" be about tradition, they take up current melodies from movies between Bollywood and Hollywood as well as adapting international radio hits to Fanfare Ciocårlia's very own style.

After touring almost every country and continent one can think of for the past 4 years, the 12 masters of "Fast-Speed-Brass-Music" are working on a new project. The party Fanfare Ciocårlia kicks off just after entering the stage and which drives everyone sheer mad is beeing put on celluloid.

Director Ralf Marschalleck / Berlin is trying to visualize the two exciting but so different worlds the musicians of the Gypsy Brass Band Fanfare Ciocårlia live in: the tiny Gypsy village Zece Prajini in Romania and their life on the big concert stages abroad.

One day playing on a traditional wedding in the neighbourhood village and the next day sitting in a plane on the way to Japan - the full length roadmovie for cinema release features the musicians' life which is based on an old tradition, a tradition which was discovered by an international fan community to assuage a hunger for a Balkan atmosphere and unleashing brass music.

ZAKLONIŠCE PREPEVA

Revolucionarne rokerje iz Nove Gorice je širša slovenska javnost spoznala pred nekaj leti, ko so s svojo nevsakdanjo pojavo, samosvojim imidžem in suverenimi koncertnimi nastopi razgibali uspavano domaco rock sceno. Njihov prvi album v CD formatu "Novo vreme - stare dileme" (Shelter records, 1998), ki je doslej doživel nickoliko ponatisov, jih je lansiral v sam vrh slovenske rokenrol scene, medtem ko njihov hit - sicer priredba Balaševiceve skladbe Racunajte na nas - postane zašcitni znak skupine. Projekt z vsejugoslovansko tematiko je narejen v duhu osemdesetih in se konceptualno zaokroži z videospotom za priredbo Racunajte na nas. Leto kasneje se Zaklonišce prepeva ponovno odpravijo v studio, kjer z istim producentom Žarkom Pakom posnamejo maxi-single Glasajte na nas (Shelter records, 1999).

Selma (Bjork) je revna ceška imigrantka. S placo, ki jo dobi v tovarni, varcuje za operacijo, ki bi lahko rešila vid njenega sina. A bolezen hitro napreduje tudi pri Selmi, ki med delom rada sanjari, da nastopa v mjuziklu - željo si skuša izpolniti z nastopom v lokalni produkciji mjuzikla Moje pesmi, moje sanje (The Sound of Music). Ko svojo slepoto nekoc razkrije svojemu najemniku, policaju Billu (David Morse), se zgodi tragedija.
Plesalka v temi (Dancer in the Dark, 2000) je cudovit poklon mjuziklu - podcenjemu in skorajda pozabljenemu žanru, ki ga moderno obcinstvo, s svojim vedno bolj skrcenim obzorjem, vedno težje dojema. Von Trier jim da s Plesalko v temi tisto, cesar mislijo, da ne marajo: tragicno, jokavo melodramo s katarzicnim koncem. Glasba da liku Selme dosti vec globine, kot bi ga imel sicer - Bjork je napisala nekaj odlicnih pesmi; nadomestilo dialogom, ki bi izzveneli prevec limonadasto. Film je posnet na digitalno video kamero in kljub zrnati sliki vizualno izredno privlacen.

Forma je sicer preverjena in stara: bas, boben, glas, kitara; zato pa je vsebina polna novega žara. Strumno, kleno in vecglasno Drugi disko že slabi dve leti zavzema odre drugih diskotek, deset njihovih revolucionarnih disko hitov pa so letos zapekli pri založbi Domaci posnjtki. Muzika se giblje med robovi rocka, jazza in etna, energija bruha kot Etna. Chicago, Balkan in Kras zapojejo v en glas. Kot bi se Šarlo akrobata ob teranu šalili s Shellac.

Andrej Fon – bobni, saksofon, kitara, pišcali, ... Martin Ukmar – kitara, bas, bobni, trobenta, ... Samo Pavlica – bas, kitara, bobni, ... Svobodna kraška burja je pred casom narazen raztepla dva izmed najbolj obetavnih slovenskih avant rock ansamblov: Kislu grozdje in Strahuljarje. Ista burja je nedavno vkup nametala ostanke obeh zasedb, hkrati pa je pometla še z najbolj trdovratnimi pravili muziciranja in ukrivila zvocno podobo Kraških solistov. Ali mora glasba imeti jasno melodijo? Jasen ritem? Ali mora biti vnaprej domišljena in izvežbana? Se morajo komadi koncati po petih minutah? Se je treba ves cas koncerta držati le enega inštrumenta? Trojica iz Sežane si teh vprašanj ne zastavlja vec, ampak spomocjo pihal, trobil, kitar, tolkal in drugih pripomockov odlocno odgovarja: NE. BOBNARS UNITED (Ljubljana):
BU dogajamo skupaj ze kako leto in pol, odkar smo se kot skupina ritmicno navdusenih prvic srecali sredi sneznega viharja na Veliki planini. Najprej smo se drzali pretezno afriskega glasbenega izrocila, v zadnjem casu pa razvijamo nove oblike odrsko-glasbenega izraza. V bobnarski drami© "BUsinjej" [kmalu link] skusamo skozi ritem in nebesedno komunikacijo povedati staro zgodbo na nov nacin.
Na omenjeni glasbeni delavnici smo prvic okusili slasti skupnega ustvarjanja ritma in v naslednjih mesecih je nastal BU. Igrali smo v mestnem parku, ob slabem vremenu tudi v podhodih, kmalu pa smo zaceli samostojno nastopati in dobili svoj vadbeni prostor. V Teatru Gromka na ljubljanski Metelkovi vadimo, nastopamo in utrjujemo misice na delovnih akcijah.
Predloge in navdih se zmeraj najdemo v tradicionalni glasbi, ki pa jo skusamo nadgrajevati z lastnim izrazom, mesanjem medijev in zanrov. Bobnarska obzorja smo razsirjali na dveh delavnicah s tolkalskima mojstroma Ninom Mureskicem in Paolom Galimbertijem. Naso zasedbo sestavljajo djembe, bongosi in poleg spremljevalnih zvocil se tradicionalna ritem masina sangba-dundun-kenkeni. V tem casu se je zamenjalo nekaj clanic in clanov, sedaj nas v BU bobna deset. Za nami so stevilni nastopi in pred nami novi izzivi.

Zakarya was born in 1999 through Yves Weyh's unique idea of blending together three different worlds: dance music, Yiddish music and improvisation. George Khan (Om Puri) je pakistanski imigrant, porocen z angleško ženo (Linda Bassett), ki skuša svojih šest otrok vzgojiti v tradicionalnem duhu. A v zacetku 70-ih, ko popularna kultura prodira v vsak dom, Georgeve ideje niso prav cenjene. Ko najstarejšemu sinu priredi poroko, ta z nje pobegne. Ko mlajša sinova izvesta, da isto caka njiju, se ocetu upreta.
Vzhod je vzhodno (East is East, 1999), zmagovalec11. LIFFa, je gledalce preprical zaradi svoje osvajajoce simpaticnosti, ne kakšne posebne inovativnosti, ki se jih pricakuje od filmov, ki na filmskih festivalih zmagujejo. Ce Vzhod je vzhodno seveda jemljemo izven konteksta tretjerazrednih festivalov (in to je edino fer), gre za klasicno zgodbo o vecnih težavah, ki jih imajo starši, ki otroke vzgajajo v okolju, ki ne razume navad tujih kultur. Om Puri odlicno odigra trmastega oceta, Linda Bassett pa ljubeco ženo, ki mu skuša ustreci in obenem zašcititi otroke. Enkrat zabavno, enkrat resno, a brez presežkov.

Vsebina: Pop (Sergej Trifunovic) in Mare (Boris Milivojevic) sta kolega še iz osnovnošolskih dni. Trenutno se želita prebiti na glasbeno sceno. Sta edina clana dvoclanske drum'n'bass glasbene skupine, ki je še vedno brez imena. V studiu nocnega kluba Dno, ki je v lasti njunega znanca Gojka (Nikola Džuricko), bi rada posnela svoj prvi komad. Mare naskrivaj proda ocetov Black & Decker vrtalnik, Pop pa vse bratove rock'n'roll plošce. To naredita, da bi zbrala dovolj denarja za snemanje. Gojko se seveda odloci, da ju potegne. Mare ima še en dober razlog za odhod v Dno. Prav tam in prav ta vecer bo imela Lola (Milica Vujovic) svoj prvi koncert. Maretu je punca že nekaj casa všec, Pop pa se cel vecer trudi, da bi Maretu onemogocil srecanje z Gojkom.

Ozadje: Režiser Radivoje Andric je ustvaril film, ki je nabit s humorjem in ironicnim namigovanjem. Uspelo se mu je izogniti pastem, ki jih ponujajo sociološka sencenja (uporaba staršev in politikov), hkrati pa je pokazal pravo dimenzijo splošnega moralnega zloma in marginalnosti mladega narašcaja v Srbiji. Kratki prizori iz bližnje preteklosti, napovedani skozi ironijo, zelo ubrano dopolnjujejo zgodbo. Eden izmed vrhuncev filma je tudi cameo pojava nekdanje nogometne legende Duleta Savica.

The Ska Punk Band PRIDIGARJI (THE PREACHERS) was formed in 1987 in Ormož, Slovenia. Currently the Members of the Band are:

The first Recording of this Ska Punk Band, a 7'' ZADNJI ODCEP ZA PALEOZOIK ( LAST EXIT TO PALEOZOIK) was released by FRONT ROCK Records in 1989. After many personal Changes in following Years the Band matured in 1994 when the first CD PODVIG Z NAPAKO (THE RISE WITH MISTAKE) was released. It was the first one in the Series of Three Records made by OHOHO RECORDS Label. This Record Label is totally independent. It was established by Band it self and publishes only Pridigarji CD's. Second CD POCASNE PREPROGE ( SLOW CARPETS) was published in 1995. In 1997 the Release of the new CD Recording NA VRAT NA NOŽ ( ON THE THROAT ON THE KNIFE) coincided with playing at Slovenian's greatest Festival NOVI ROCK (THE NEW ROCK), where the Band's Gig was the Festival's main Event. In the end of 1999 the Band released fourth CD IDIOTI V HALI SLAVNIH (IDIOTS IN HALL OF FAME). The Record was released by FRONT ROCK Record Label in Cooperation with OHOHO RECORDS.
During the following Years the Band's Music was Present on different Compilations released in Slovenia or abroad: NO BORDER JAM 1,2,3,4&5, ZGAGA FESTIVAL, SMERI RAZVOJA, UNTERHUND-VESELICA, OX, PALSTIC BOMB, K4 1989/99.
Most of more than 200 Gigs took Place in the Home Country Slovenia and some also in Neighbour Countries Austria and Croatia, even in Serbia and Macedonia. In 1993, the Band went on Germany Tour called SLOVENIA SIX PACK. In 1998 They where on a second Tour called IDIOTSKA in Austria, Germany and Netherlands.
During all this Years the Band was honored with Maribor's STUDENT RADIO Award MARŠEV GOJZAR for the best alternative Band in Slovenia in 1995 (next Year for Slovenian's best Concert Band). The Band was also honored by another ZLATI PETELIN Award for the best Alternative Rock Song called KAKŠNA NOC (What a Night). This time by Slovenia Music Society.
Pridigarji are a Kind of Band which doesn't let You listen to their Music from a Corner of the Hall. Band's amazing Performance is full of Adrenaline which forces You to Step down to the dancing Floor and challenges You to a Duel whose Winner is always known - The Pridigarji Band.

Zametki skupine PUDDING FIELDS segajo nekje v leto 1996. Takrat so se skoraj nakljucno zbrali štirje, nadebudni borci za delavske, socialne, žurerske ter še ne vem katere druge pravice, z eno samo željo - spremeniti svet. SIMON (vokal), MIHA (kitara), PRIMOŽ (bas) & DAVID (bobni). Kvartet intenzivno vadi (mnogi sicer ocitajo nasprotno), pripravi material, katerega jim ne manjka, posname dva demo-ta, ter se odpravi na svoj prvi pohod, ki se konca tako, da presurfajo Slovenijo navzgor in pocez. V tem obdobju nanizajo skoraj sto koncertov po vseh bolj ali manj znanih klubih, festivalih, barih, zaklonišcih, igrišcih?, veckrat pa pospremijo tudi kakšno bolj ali manj uveljavljeno skupino (Funkyard - predskupina na celotni SLO turneji, Zabranjeno Pušenje, Partibrejkers, Psihomodo pop, Zmelkoow, Hladno pivo?). Vse to se dogaja pod budnim ocesom "menagerja - pivca" JAKE IVANCICA. Vrhunec takratnega ustvarjanja predstavlja njihov še dandanes "kultni" mini CD (Pedofil, Proleter, Kanela bar, Spider, Vsakdan), posnet v Gorici s producentom Davidom Šinigojem.

Ko se Simon odpravi na študiji cez lužo se pojavi potreba po novih soborcih. Le - te najdejo v JAKA - trobenta (zdaj že bivšem menagerju, ma še vedno pivcu) in DEANU (kitaristu - fantazistu). Kot zadnji se bendu prikljuci še "rosno mlad" vokal (GeWiT), vendar prav nic neizkušen. Tudi v punku ne najdejo vec tiste prave inspiracije, zato mu cedalje bolj prikljucujejo izrazite elemente rocka, regeea in ska-ja. Tako se zadnje dve leti ukvarjajo predvsem s koncerti in snemanjem svojega, zdaj že legandarnega prvenca, ki pa kot zaklet noce in noce zagledati luci. Sveta še niso

Vsebina: Nekoc je v daljni mocvari živel zlovoljen ljudomrznež po imenu Shrek (Mike Myers). Njegove dragocene samote je nenadoma konec, ko k njemu vdrejo nadvse nadležni pravljicni liki. V hrani najde slepe miši, v postelji velikega hudobnega volka, k njemu so se zatekli tudi trije prašicki, ki so ostali brez strehe nad glavo, in še kdo. Vse je iz njihovega kraljestva prepodil zlobni Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Shrek se odloci, da bo rešil njihov dom - in, jasno, tudi svojega. Pogodi se s Farquaadom in se odpravi rešit lepo princeso Fiono (Cameron Diaz), ki naj bi postala Farquaadova nevesta. Pri tej nevarni nalogi mu ob strani stoji nabriti Osel (Eddie Murphy),

Ozadje Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz in John Lithgow so glavni glasovi v Shreku, animirani komediji, ki so jo ustvarili carovniki racunalniške animacije pri PDI/DreamWorks. Film je nastal po istoimenski otroški knjigi Williama Steiga.

Shrek se lahko pohvali z nekaterimi izjemnimi novostmi racunalniške animacije. Film odlikuje realisticna upodobitev ljudi, ki so sposobni izraziti besede in custva s pomocjo kompleksnega sistema obrazne animacije, ki so ga razvili pri PDI. S posebnim sistemskim orodjem je animatorjem uspelo ustvariti pretanjene obrazne in telesne gibe, ki so kombinacija premikanja kosti, mišic, mašcobe, kože, las in obleke. Izboljšana je tudi animacija ozadja; tkanin, ki se premikajo, gubajo in odzivajo na svetlobo kot prava tkanina; ognja; ter tekocin razlicne viskoznosti, kar so dosegli z nagrajenim Fluid Animation System, ki so ga razvili pri PDI/DreamWorks: “Racunalnik je prava revolucija v animaciji - ne evolucija, revolucija. Nobenega dvoma ni, da je Shrek dalec nad vsem, kar je bilo doslej storjenega v racunalniški animaciji,” pravi producent Jeffrey Katzenberg in brž doda, “za kakšnih deset sekund. Da, res gre za novost, toda ali mislite, da bo dolgo obdržala svoje vodilno mesto? Kje pa. Kakšen dan ali dva, morda. Prav to je tisto razburljivo pri racunalniški animaciji: nenehno se razvija. Z orodji, ki so zdaj na voljo, se nic vec ne zdi nemogoce.”
